She looked feverishly at the clock.
The ticking of the second hand was driving her crazy.
Where was he?!
She walked to the window for the fiftieth time and looked out. Slowly, her heart lifted as she saw the headlights in the distance that glowed brighter as they drew nearer.
The car drew up to the kerb and stopped.
She flung the door open and stood there, arms folded.
“Why are you late? It’s past 2!”
He smiled and hugged her.
“Ma, I told you. The night shift. Cabbies can’t keep regular hours.”
