If you were asked to write every day and you find it a chore or perhaps boring, would you do it? Of course not. In fact, you’d do everything in your power to not do it. It’s a human instinct; we avoid the hard things, the boring things and the things that don’t give us joy.

So how do you get a place where you create something consistently without finding it boring?

Here are two tips that I can share

TIP 1- Find the Joy even in the Mundane

The task can be boring; we can’t change that. But you know what we can change? How we respond to it.

Let’s say you don’t enjoy writing. Have you ever considered why you don’t enjoy it?

a) You’re FORCING yourself to do it

b) Someone else TOLD you to do it

c) It’s too HARD

d) You expect TOO much from it

Instead, let’s try this reframing exercise:

A) I get to write regularly. What a blessing!

B) It’s only the start that’s tough; it gets better the more I write.

C) Writing makes me happy; not the validation that comes afterward.

D) I am a writer; that’s why I write.

See what I mean?

TIP 2: Put Writing Time On the Calendar

Put it on the calendar. Seriously, block it off on your calendar and tell yourself this is your gift to yourself.

I gift myself a minimum of 2 writing blocks per day. That’s my writing time and I guard it with all my heart. Nobody can take it away from me. Whether I write 50 words, 500 words or 5000 words, is irrelevant.

What matters is that I write every day.

When I give myself permission to create, there is no pressure to perform. I don’t write because of what will come after it; I write because the process energizes me. That makes all the difference.

Follow these tips and before you know it, you’ll start enjoying the art of writing for its own sake. Try it and let me know :)
